Making Faces

Here’s how I’m doing with my practice at making faces in Blender. I started with some photos I found on the ‘net. You can see those in a previous entry. But now I’ve moved on to a self portrait and modelling the faces of friends. And I can honestly say, the more I do, the easier it seems to get. Practice really does make perfect.

These faces are all members of Blender Underground and are in various stages of completion. From left to right we have Ninja Krow, Jotoonkid and DaveC (me).

Making head ways.

I’m really enjoying making 3D head models at the moment. After the whole edge-loop thing clicked in my mind, it just became a lot easier to do. This WIP is a model of one of my fellow Blender Underground members. All made with Blender.

Progress Step One
Step One

In Step One, I’ve modelled the whole face but still need to complete the back of the head and some ears. The ears, to me, are the most daunting prospect of the whole model. (more…)

Snowy Enfield Photographs

It’s been a very snowy January here in Enfield (just north of London, UK). I drive past this park on my school run every day and keep seeing the bandstand with snow on the roof. Today, before the snow disappeared, I decided to get some pictures. I’m quite proud of them.

Won’t you have a look?

A face, textured, animated, hairy.

Made entirely with Blender. The skin has SSS. The hair is partical hair. The eyes have refraction through the cornea. Everything could be better but I like it.

And it looks REALLY weird animated:

My 3D Self-Portrait Trophy

Now that I’ve got to grips with face modeling in Blender, I thought I deserved a trophy. So, I took a couple of pictures of me, modeled my face and created this trophy. Yay, me!

Changing faces

Over the years I have tried, on occasion, to model a realistic face. I’ve had varying degrees of success leading up to this, my first decent face model. All the loops are right. All the proportions are right. Well, as far as I can tell, they’re right.

This is what it looks like:

Happy New Year 2010

2009 is finally over. It wasn’t a great year but, for me at least, it was filled with positives. I’m positively glad it’s 2010 though. Here’s hoping that it’ll be a great new year and new decade.

Only 358 days to Christmas ;)

Building a teacup ain’t so easy

I love using Blender but every so often I do manage to find something I can’t do with it. That doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t do it. It simply means I can’t figure out how.

Amazing 3D car animation made by one man

I’m sure it’s quite well known that I’m an avid fan of Blender. However, this does not lead me to ignore the quality produced from other 3D softwares. Especially when it involves incredible talent and great entertainment.

A man going by the name of Pantural on YouTube has created this animation of car models which, to be completely honest, blew me away. So I’m sharing it with you all. ‘ave a look.

Snowman stuck to lamp post

I wonder if snowmen could actually be this stupid. Here’s my annual snowman image made with Blender. I make one of these snowmen pictures each year. Always great fun.
